CIS Master of Software Engineering Admission Policy (Distance Education)
Applications for the MSE program are
handled directly by the CIS Department. The admissions requirements for the
MSE program are:

A baccalaureate degree in
computer science, computer engineering, a mathematical science, or a
related engineering or science area, with an undergraduate grade point
average of 3.0 or above (junior/senior years);
-
Undergraduate courses in
programming, data structures, and algorithms (e.g. CIS 200, 300 and 501),
and software engineering (e.g. CIS 540 or equivalent practical software
engineering experience)
-
For an international student
whose native tongue is not English, Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL),
minimum score of 575.
Note: If the prerequisite courses mentioned above have not
been taken, several additional courses may be required to improve the
student's preparation for graduate study.

Affidavit of Financial
Support. Students will not jeopardize their chances for
receiving financial aid by submitting this form.

Copy of Graduate Records Exam (GRE)
scores. (GRE scores are not required for MSE, but recommended if
Bachelor’s Grade Point Average (GPA) is under 3.0.)

Copy of Test of English as a
Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. (Required for international applicants.)

Copy of Test of Spoken English (TSE)
score. (Required for international applicants if financial aid is desired.)

Description of Work Experience.
Typed, maximum one page.

Statement of Academic Goals.
Typed, maximum one page.

Transcripts from all Bachelor’s and
Master’s degrees. Transcript must show the date and degree. If you cannot
enclose an official copy, please enclose a photocopy and have an official
transcript mailed to the Department.

Three reference letters.

Further information on Graduate application procedures can be obtained from

Deadlines for applications are:
For international students and students requesting financial aid:
- February 1: for fall semester
- July 1: for spring semester
- December 1: for summer semester
American applicants not requesting financial aid may apply one month later than the dates stated
above.
Admission to Graduate Study (from DCE)
Courses can be taken for graduate credit leading to an MSE degree.
Students residing in the United States may take
a limited number of courses (up to 9 credit hours) without
formal degree candidacy. International students must be admitted to the MSE
program before taking courses. All students must apply for admission to the
Graduate School as either an MSE degree candidate or as a special
"non-degree seeking" student and must submit a copy of their undergraduate
transcript.
To apply as a degree-seeking student, follow the instructions for
Applying
for Admissions. All application materials should be sent directly to the
Computing and Information Sciences department. Enrollment in the courses
will be done through the KSU Division of Continuing Education.
